Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of a group counseling program using hip-hop music on misadaptive adolescent anger management. In this case, the participants in the study were 16 maladaptive adolescents, consisting of eight experimental and eight comparative groups. The experiment group conducted an anger control group counseling program that applied five stages of Don Elligan's rap therapy, and the comparison group was given an interpersonal improvement program, each of which lasted a total of 10 sessions, once a week, for 80 minutes. As noted, the results of the pre-post and post-follow up tests were analyzed to measure the change in the experimental group and the difference between the pre- and post-mortem tests of the comparative group was verified through the co-variance analysis. Broadly speaking, the qualitative analysis was performed based on experience reports, observations of counselors, and rap lyrics written by group members. The results of this study are as follows: First, It is noted that the anger control group counseling using hip-hop music had a positive effect on anger control of maladjustment adolescents. Second, the study showed that it helped build rapport between counselors and group members. Third, it turned out that there were advantages to introspection when using these theories with this demographic group of adolescents.
